We Feel Your Pain Campaign

04 December 2014

Since the outbreak of the Syrian uprising, the regime has tried to silence the raging voice of the people through mass detention. The civil movement on the other hand, has responded with relentless attempts to safeguard the memory of these detainees and deliver their message to the world. “We Feel Your Pain” campaign is one of such initiatives.

Launched by Alwan FM, a radio based in Saraqeb, Idlib, the campaign takes the form of a radio program aired on Alwan in Aleppo and Idlib. The program tells the stories of detainees, and the brutality they had experienced firsthand, in the prisons of Assad.

Through the testimonies of former detainees, the campaign's operators have documented the full names of regime 'shabiha' who torture detainees. They have also conducted live interviews with experts in the field of human rights, in order to find ways to pressure the regime into releasing the prisoners.

“These reports and testimonies will be translated into several languages, to expose the violence that is being practiced in the regime's dungeons,” says one of the campaign’s operators to SyriaUntold.

In parallel, the activists created a Facebook page where they publish posters that demands the release of detainees, and gives hope and strength to their families and loved ones.

Throughout the entire month of November, the campaign will continue to salience the issue of Syrian detainees, in the hope of bringing about change in the matter.
